One of the major issues for organisations today is the shortage of skilled labour. This is aggravated by students graduating in fields that are irrelevant or already saturated and the technological changes which leaves artisans under-skilled and unable to continue to work effectively.

Simply put, the lack of skills is the greatest challenge to the economic growth of our country.

The Skills and Training Summit is designed to create awareness and solutions around these and other issues. Delegates will work towards understanding South Africa’s skills shortages and developing a platform for sharing their experiences and knowledge.

The Objectives:

  • To highlight the core issues around skills development and training.
  • To identify specific constraints on skills development within economic sectors and provide solutions.
  • To bring together decision-makers and organisations affected by and involved in skills development and reach consensus on the way forward.
  • To create opportunities for organisations to form new business relationships in pursuit of the skills and training agenda.
  • Breakaway sessions at the summit bring attention to specific issues affecting the various sectors. Breakaways serve to allow attendees to gain insight on various topics that may affect their businesses. Attendees also have the opportunity to raise issues of concern.
  • Integral to the summit is the Skills and Training Exhibition where organisations can showcase and promote their products focusing on skills and development. This exhibition is open to the public sector, the private sector and the general public.

Delegates will include:

People from industry and business – company executives, professional associates, members of industry skills councils and advisory boards, employers, unionists, human resource specialists; tertiary sector professionals and practitioners – public and private training providers from institutions and universities; senior executives, managers, planners, human resource personnel from these institutions; teachers, trainers and lecturers; leading researchers and consultants; people from government; employment service providers; community representatives – community leaders, students. Anyone with an interest in skills and training should attend.
