The dynamic city of Tshwane (formerly known as Pretoria), the birthplace of the new South African democracy, with its rich cultural history, is situated in the commercial and industrial hub of Gauteng, South Africa’s smallest but most prosperous province. Tshwane is home to the CSIR International Convention Centre, a world-class facility set in tranquil natural surrounds with an abundance of indigenous birds and small mammals.
The venues ability to host events of international scale and significance time and again is proven by the feedback received from delighted clients and the amount of repeat business the Centre generates. On every level, from service to catering to facilities, the Centre is fully-equipped to compete with the very best in the world. Special emphasis is placed on providing exceptional service and understanding the purpose and required outcome of the clients’ event before the detailed planning for an event begins.
Originally designed for use by the scientific and academic communities, the CSIR International Convention Centre has played host to such events as the Simmentaler World Congress, the Bionet International Global Congress, the Africa Conference on Elections, Democracy and Governance, and Science at the Summit, an offshoot of the 2002 World Summit for Sustainable Development.
Reinforcing and enhancing that world-class capacity, the Centre has a process of continuous upgrading and staff training, to ensure that its facilities, services, and products remain on par with, and even ahead of, other global facilities and standards.
More than R1-million a year is spent on audiovisual equipment and facility upgrades, and expansion plans include the building of a hotel on the site and additional exhibition space adjacent to the Central foyer area.
While the carefully designed auditoriums are the Centre’s main feature the Centre’s facilities also include satellite link and videoconferencing equipment, sound-proofed, glass-fronted translation booths with a state of the art interpreting system, a one-stop business centre with fast Internet access, wireless internet access, network and telephone points every few meters, over and above standard equipment such as data projectors, laptops and the like. In addition to the function, conference, and breakaway venues, the Centre also features a centrally located exhibition area.
